When membership at OSLC is being considered or desired, an individual is asked to set up an appointment with one of the pastors. Simply call the church secretary to set up your visit with the pastor. At this meeting, the pastor will give a tour of the facility, review the history of the church, explain the ministry of Our Saviour, and review the faith-walk and life-story of the individual / family desiring to join. There are two ways to membership after this meeting. One is by transfer from another Lutheran church. The other is by means of Profession of Faith / Adult Confirmation.
Transfer of Membership from other Lutheran Churches
If the individual desires to proceed with a transfer of membership to OSLC, they would communicate with the church where their membership is held and ask for a “Letter of Transfer” from the previous church to OSLC. This process can take several weeks due to different protocols in churches. The pastor from the previous church may contact the individual to clarify the reason for the transfer request.
Once the transfer letter is received at OSLC, your membership transfer will be made official at the next Elders’ Meeting (usually held monthly). Your new membership will be recognized at a new member Sunday when a group of new members has accumulated.
Members will be asked to participate in the worship and service of this congregation. A “time and talent survey” will be completed by all new members to find ways in which they can join in the fellowship of the congregation.
Profession of Faith / Adult Confirmation
Non-Lutherans who desire to join will be asked to participate in an informal series of “Adult Confirmation Classes”. This series varies in length from six to eight sessions that cover the basics of the Christian faith as taught from the Scriptures and expounded on in Luther’s Small Catechism. These sessions are scheduled at various times throughout the church year. After completion of this class you will be brought into church membership by a public profession of faith held at one of our worship services.
As a member of OSLC, you will be asked to be an active participant in the worship and life of the congregation. A “time and talent survey” will be completed by all new members to find ways in which they can join in the fellowship of the congregation.
